This was taken a few weeks ago, I have a weakness for photographing birds flying. This kiewiet was actually dive bombing me, because it had an egg or chick nearby.

Bliss

Today, personally,  bliss can be one of two things

A) an airconditioned room after a walk in the hot sun

Yes, my face looks like this too

B) warm chocolate chip cookies and a glass of cold, fresh, full cream, farm milk (find the recipe here)

Water

I spent a good 15 minutes at our reservoir, hoping that the heron (a long-legged freshwater and coastal bird) would come perch on the cement wall as he often does. But it wasn’t the heron that gave me this shot. It was a family of swallows coming to skim over the water and take delicate sips. I almost fell into the water following the birds with my camera, which would have been hilarious in a few years time, but could have cost me my camera, book and phone!

They would swoop just over my head to dip down to the water

It was amazing to have these beautiful birds flying so close to me, a truly magical feeling

My home is my farm. The smell of the veld after a big rain, the beautiful Africa sunsets when we’re working outside, the old buildings that surround our house, the smell of wet cattle. That is what home feels like to me.
